The Calm Before the Holidays

It has been so hot here and I feel like it took forever for Fall to arrive. Of course it’s still pretty warm right now but I know it will be cooler soon. I am ready for pumpkin drinks and apple desserts. Beef stew and chili. Taking walks outside in the crisp air. Putting on pajamas and snuggling up with my soft blanket. Trying new herbal teas and reading spooky books.

I like to read scary books around this time of year right before Halloween. I just finished reading a very creepy book. Usually I can guess what is going to happen but not with this book. I was totally surprised. The name of the book is I’m Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid. I can’t tell you anything about it because it would spoil the whole story for you but it’s a good one. I was afraid but I wasn’t sure why I was afraid. Do you have a favorite scary book or author?

I enjoy herbal teas and there are so many to try now. When I first started drinking herbal tea (a long time ago) there weren’t that many to choose from. My current favorite is Stash Licorice Spice. It reminds of a tea I used to drink in a restaurant in Alaska. I would stop by for lunch and get a big cup of hot tea and a bowl of dumplings. I’m sure I will have a new tea favorite next week.

The Fall season always feels like a brief quiet time before I get started on all of the fun and stress of the holidays. What kinds of things do you like to do at this time of year?
